Meagan and Luke, Part One - Mississippi Gulf Coast Wedding Photography

Meagan and Luke chose to have an elegant winter wonderland-themed wedding reception at the new Bay St. Louis community center. Meagan choose beautiful flowers and colors for a winter wedding.

Meagan and Luke got ready at the Bay St. Louis Community Center, where they also had their first look. A great option in December when the sun sets so early. The nuptuals took place at Michael Memorial Baptist Church in Gulfport, MS and then back to the Bay Saint Louis Community Hall for the reception.

Everything, and I do mean everything, was provided by Trica Shankle from Mississippi Cook'n and Cater'n out of Grenada, MS. They took care of the event design, flowers, food, cake, centerpieces... like I said - everything :) with inspiration and ideas from Meagan of course.

Bliss Wedding Cafe

Yes, I know - it's been a few months since I've posted. But only because I've been blessed with a wonderful 2011 filled with weddings and newborn sessions and families! While I love to blog and share recent work - my clients come first and getting their images and products on time had to come before my love of blogging.

But I hope you are still here and interested in keeping up with us in 2012! I imagine you all had a wonderful holiday and new years!

Soooooo - for the exciting news! Tilley Photography has joined forces with the Bliss Bridal Cafe and we have opened an office in Gulfport, MS. It's the one and only Bridal and Wedding lounge on the Mississippi Gulf Coast.

Some of the best wedding vendors on the gulf coast are a part of Bliss. What is a Bridal Lounge you ask? Great question!

So first... wedding vendors are often working out of their home. They are real licensed businesses, but without a "storefront" as you might call it. Before Bliss, as my clients know, I often met potential brides at a coffee shop (hence Wedding 'cafe') as did many of my peers. But I'm ready to take my business to the next level.

Second - the part where you come in - Bliss is for BRIDES! Brides are searching the internet and facebook for ideas, wedding vendors, and inspiration. And that search can be overwhelming. Bliss is a place where brides can come (for free of course) and look through listings of some of the top wedding vendors on the coast.

Are you looking for a caterer? You could spend days searching on the internet, emailing caterers, waiting for them to email you back sample menues. Or you can come to Bliss. Pick up the binder for caterers and see all their menus in one place.

Wedding Photographer or Storm Chaser?

Yes, I know - where have I been? The answer is - all over! The summer has been a busy one, travelling to Boston for a few weddings, to New York City and Long Island, back to Boston for my best friends bachelorette celebration and then back again to Boston for a Labor Day Weekend wedding. Not to mention photographing weddings in New Orleans, Tupelo, Meridian and South Mississippi. Did I mention it's been a busy summer?

So, can we talk about the storms for just a moment? I swear they were following me!! First Hurricane Irene followed me to Boston. Then coming back home after Labor Day I flew right into Tropical Storm Lee. Yes, that's right. The plane landed in New Orleans during a tropical storm. It was a frightening landing, white knuckles and all. Who knew being a wedding photographer would coincide with storm chasing. The hazards of the job, I guess.

Chris and Britney, La Maison, Gautier Mississippi Wedding Photographer

I do love May weddings. Flowers in bloom, a warm breeze... what's not to love? Britney and Chris' May wedding took place at La Maison (The Old Place) in Gautier, MS. La Maison is quickly becoming one of my favorite wedding venues on the coast. I just can't get over the Spanish moss on the old oak trees. I could eat it up (although I'm sure it's not good to do that, so I won't).

As you can CLEARLY see, Britney and Chris are quite easy on the eyes. And while they are obvisouly beautiful on the outside, what is more endearing was how beautiful they are on the inside. I don't know them well but once their friends and family began the speach/toasting portion of the evening, it was evident. Tears and laughter were flowing from everyone's eyes as they professed their love for this couple. I'm not sure there was a dry eye in the place. But what a wonderful testament to their union it was.

Britney's family did all the decorations and flowers (wow, what a talented family). Broome's Catering http://www.shopatbroomes.com/ out of Ocean Springs kept the guests' bellies full before the yummy cake from Nita Lee was served. And finally the guests enjoyed an evening of dancing and entertainment provided by Doobie Derouen WWW.DJDOOBIE.COM.

Elisa and Jon - Ocean Springs, MS Engagement Session

Okay, I love this couple. I say that alot, but I really LOVE this couple. Elise and Jon are getting married in October. Their wedding is in Colorado, or else I'd seriously consider crashing their big day just so I can take photos of their wedding (is that frowned upon?) Luckily for them, my best friend is getting married that day or I might just hop on a plane to do just that ;)

Okay, now that I've creeped them out, I'll share the images. What a fun couple! Jon is in the Coast Guard and Elise is volunteering for Americorps. They are living in Ocean Springs for now until Jon's duty takes him elsewhere. Of course being from Colorado, they thought it was hot and humid, which by South Mississippi standards it was relatively cool and comfortable. So I had to poke fun a little. But as soon as Jon pulled out his Red Sox hat at the end of the session, they became my favorite clients! (Hint: want to woo your Boston-transplant photographer, wear a Boston Red Sox or Boston University hat and we'll be friends forever).

Jaklyn's Bridals

I'm sure I've said this before, and I don't mean to sound like a broken record, but photographing a bridal session and keeping the photos to myself until the wedding day is like holding in a juicy secret. You know you can't let it out, but you're dying to ;)

Jaklyn has been a busy girl.... graduating from law school; studying, taking and PASSING the bar, all while planning her wedding. Talk about getting things done. And all while appearing clam, cool and collected.

Jaklyn's wedding was Saturday (those pictures to come) at Gulf Hills Country Club in Ocean Springs, MS. Her ceremony took place at the beautiful Marshall Park also in Ocean Springs, Mississippi. And I couldn't be more thankful that she chose Tilley Photography as her wedding photographer. I feel honored each and every time a couple gives me the opportunity to capture the memories of their wedding day.

We discussed where to take her bridal portraits on the gulf coast... and she thought of a very special place. She grew up playing among the oak trees and Spanish moss along the Singing River at a magical place called Twelve Oaks. And so that's where we went. It's in Gautier, MS just down the road from La Maison (The Old Place). Enjoy! She was stunning, don't you agree?

Tracey and Brian - Friendship Oak and Beau Rivage Wedding, Biloxi, MS

I had been looking forward to this wedding for a long time. Tracey and Brian were planning their wedding from Charlotte, NC and chose to bring their close friends and family here to the Mississippi Gulf Coast. I was so honored to be their wedding photographer.

They wanted a special location for their ceremony - and appropriately chose the Friendship Oak in Long Beach, MS. As locals know, the legand has it that those who enter the shade of its branches will remain friends for all their lifetime. What could be better?

Valerie's Melodies provided the beautiful ceremony music. Susie Davis from A Plan to Remember made their event flow smoothly, as usual. From the pink and orange decor at the tree... and then bringing the tree theme back to the Beau Rivage in Biloxi, MS for a reception like no other. The tree branches could be found throughout the details of their wedding - from the programs and favors, to the centerpieces and way-cool ice sculpture (that doubled as a louge for their signature drink). Not to mention the amazing logo that lit up the recpetion.

Flowers Forever from Gulfport, MS created the beautiful bouquets of hydrangeas and roses, while Melissa's Specialty Cakes from Long Beach baked the beautiful cake that tasted as good as it looked - not that I would know ;)

And to make sure the reception was entertaining for all, the couple hired the professional Jim Horn Entertainment as the Master of Ceremonies and DJ extrodinaire. Jim knows how to keep the reception exciting, and I should know - as Jim was the Master of Ceremonies for my own wedding six years ago. And a nice little suprise? The couple lead the second line with a pair of umbrellas close to my heart. They were the umbrella's I special ordered for my wedding's second line. I passed them on to Jim after our reception ended - little did I know I would see them again!

I've Got Your Back (-up)

Yesterday I spoke with a teary-eyed newlywed named Melissa. She booked a session with me to take pictures of her and her groom in their wedding day attire. Some couples choose to have more pictures taken after their wedding day to get the most out of that FABULOUS dress... but for this bride, it wasn't really her choice.

She had a well-meaning friend with a great camera photograph her wedding. And her friend takes great pictures... but sometimes, hiring a professional photographer (or any wedding vendor really) is about more than just whether or not one can take a great photo. It's about experience and knowledge and preparation. Her well-meaning friend with a great camera who takes good photos only had one camera, one lens, one battery, two memory cards, and no off camera flashes.

This sweet soul, because I truly believe this person had the best of intentions, had not one mis-hap, but two - and now a couple has special moments from their day missing.

As Melissa's dad got ready to walk his only daughter down the aisle, her friend's battery died. Yes, that sweet moment of dad walking his little girl down the aisle has come and gone... and while that moment will forever be in Melissa's heart - she will not have any photographs of that moment to share with her loved ones and future children. Her friend quickly found a corner to charge her battery (she was smart enough to bring the charger!) and grabbed a guest's point and shoot camera to capture the rest of the ceremony.

By the end of the ceremony, the battery was charged. Whew... just in time for the family formals. She captured the family pictures on her memory card. Then the bride, groom and friend with a camera went to get some much anticipated couple shots... by a fountain. The family had left and made their way to the reception... it was just the three of them.

Her friend placed the camera down next to the fountain (see where this is going) while she positioned Melissa and her husband in a wonderful pose... turned around to grab her camera.. and as she turned around knocked her camera into the fountain.

The friend had one wonderful thing on her side... she had taken the first card out of the camera and inserted a new one as they left the church... so all the pictures she had taken were safe. Of course the camera was soaked and wet, and the displays were flashing until finally nothing displayed and it was obvious the camera was fried.

However, with just one camera - and no one else around with even a point and shoot (the rest of the bridal party and family had left to go to the reception).... they were left there, without a camera. Melissa confessed that she cried all the way to the reception.

Her friend grabbed the other guest's point and shoot again and captured the rest of the reception with just a point and shoot.

So here we are... it wasn't a total loss. Melissa has lovely preparation photos and family formal portraits. She has what her friend was able to capture with the point and shoot but is missing her walking down the aisle and pictures of just the couple they had planned on taking. And while the photos from the point and shoot will do... its just not the same.

I could really go on and on... but when you pay money for a photographer, don't think of it as 6 hours or 8 hours or whatever time you have contracted them for on the day of your wedding. For each wedding I spend 4-5 hours of preparation charging batteries, packing bags, typing out a list of family formals, going over the wedding day timeline, etc. I spend many hours after the wedding uploading images to multiple hard drives and then burning onto disks in case of a drive failure. It's the equipment costs, maintenance costs and costs to insure the equipment.

To every wedding I photograph I bring 4 professional SLRs (A 5D MkII, a 7D, and two 30Ds), 12 fully charged camera batteries, 6 professional speedlights (flashes), 11 lenses, 40 compact flash cards, 36 fully charged NiMh AA batteries, three light stands, a tripod, an umbrella, and my chargers. This is so that if something horrible happens and a camera body or flash breaks, I don't even have to blink... I pull out a back-up.

When you pay for a professional you're also paying for them to maintain and insure tens' of thousands of dollars' worth of equipment.

Last year I had a wedding on a particularly dry day. Lots of lightening, but no rain. One of my cameras just failed on me - I can only guess it was the static electricity in the air. And it happened during the father/daughter dance. But guess what - the bride has NO idea. Because within seconds, I had my second body up and taking photos.

Do things like this happen? Sure... but it's the professionals that are prepared for it.

Elizabeth - Bun in the Oven! Mississippi Gulf Coast Maternity Photographer

Elizabeth has to be one of my all time favorite brides ever. She's fearless. I love her!!! Like any photographer would love someone who is just natural and herself. Her fearless self.

She married Dave in June of 2010. Their wedding took place at Pelican Landing in Moss Point, MS. It was one of the most fun, but also most touching weddings I've photographed. Fun because their families and friends know how to have a good time, and touching because they spoke from their hearts and really made the wedding their own.

Ah, and then beautiful Liz booked a boudoir session, where she really showed how fearless and absolutely stunning she really can be.

And, as the world turns - Liz and Dave are now expecting their first child, a little boy right around their one-year-anniversary. Since they've moved to Michigan, I didn't know if I'd have the pleasure of photographing Liz's baby bump, but alas she came to town. And I had the honor to photograph her growing belly (although still quite perfectly small and cute). Now I just have to keep my fingers crossed that Baby O'Brien make's an appearance in Mississippi soon after he arrives. Because if he's anything like his parents, he'll be a natural in front of the camera. Enjoy Liz.

The Decker Family - Pass Christian Mississippi Portrait Photography

I've postponed many portrait sessions because of rain here on the Mississippi Gulf Coast - but this evening, we weren't really worried about the rain. It was the wind messing with our plans.

I was looking forward to meeting the Decker's at the beach for some lovely family portraits by the water. But mother nature had another idea in store. As I turned on Hwy 90 heading to our agreed upon location, I saw the wind whipping through the air. The sand from the beach was blowing onto the highway, and I knew we were going to struggle to get good beach portraits.

I have never seen a plow here on the Mississippi Gulf Coast (I mean it doesn't snow here). But this day, there were PLOWS plowing the sand of the roadway.

When the Decker family arrived we got out of the car to discuss alternate plans. As we were talking I felt the gritty sand between my teeth. Sand in your hair, mouth and eyes is not quite ideal for family portraits.

Luckily the Dexter's are flexible people. We moved the session inland for now, and will try the beach another day. When it's oh, not so windy! I hope you enjoy these non-beach photos!!

Meet Beautiful Rachel, the Mississippi Gulf Coast's newest floral designer

Meet gorgeous, beautiful Rachel! Don't you just love her already? Rachel Cuevas is the owner of Pine Hills Floral Designs http://www.pinehillsfloral.com/ in Pass Christian, MS. Flowers run in Rachel's veins you can say - as her family owns and operates Pine Hills Nursery.

She is just what the Mississippi Gulf Coast needed, a fresh (no pun intended) addition to the wedding and event community. Rachel just graduated from Mississippi State University with a degree in Horticulture and a concentration in Floral Management. Seriously? She KNOWS flowers!

Of course she is practically perfect in every way, except one huge giant detail that almost sent me to my knees. She. Is. A. Yankess. Fan. Not cool for this Boston girl. I bleed Red Sox all the way. But thankfully her charm allows me to look past the surface. And I forgive her for that ;)

Rachel loves weddings and flowers and so now her business combines the two! Looking for a florist (floral designer!) for your wedding? Look no further. Rachel creates beautiful bridal bouquets, centerpieces, and ceremony arrangements.

So she asked me for headshots. Headshots? No - headshots are for lawyers. I wanted to show her personality... so that's what I did. She thought I was a little insane I'm sure. But I think you'll agree these tell you who Rachel is - as opposed to a headshot. So if you need photography for your bio, business profile or website - let me show your clients who you are... don't just get a "headshot."

Talor and Kyle, Slavonian Lodge - Biloxi Mississippi

Yes, I'm still alive! Very much so. I miss you blog. Things are really wonderful at Tilley Photography and Mississippi Boudoir - so much so that blogging has had to take a back burner to getting out wedding and portrait images, finishing album designs, etc. But I needed to stop by and say hello and let you know I'm still breathing! So why not say Congratulations to Talor and Kyle with a little sneak peak while I'm here? And this is a little sneak peak - because there are so many wonderful images from the wedding I haven't even starting picking out my favorites! I hope to post more later!!

Talor and Kyle tied the knot at First Baptist Church in Biloxi. The weather couldn't have been any better; and Biloxi was hopping with events that day - a St. Patrick's Day parade, a fair, and the Blue Angels at Keesler. The reception was held at one of my favorite venues here on the Mississippi Gulf Coast, the Slavonian Lodge, although some call it the Slovic Lodge and still others the Croation Lodge. Whatever the name, it's beautiful. The perfect place for an elegant wedding. Top that off with Angie Stenum Event Design, and you have a recipe for a fabulous reception! Pearson Productions (out of Wiggins) kept the guests on their feet the entire night. The event was catered by the Biloxi Yacht Club and the cake was made by Sweet Stuff, yum!

Special Thanks to Pat Heidingsfelder for tagging along for the evening and helping me play with my new PocketWizards. And a shout out to Nikki Ladner, who did an amazing job, AS ALWAYS, on hair and make-up.

Bride/brother dance - how sweet!

South Beach Biloxi Hotel and Suites

Friday, I had the pleasure of attending a vendor open house at the brand new South Beach Biloxi Hotel and Suites.

I had heard about the new posh hotel, but had not had the pleasure of seeing the property until Friday. Wow, is all I can say. There is definitely nothing like it on the coast. My first thought was, what a PERFECT place for a bride and bridesmaids to get ready. Huge suites with full kitchens and seperate bedrooms. Most of the suites not only had a spacious bathroom, but usually came with a little half bath as well. No more cramping all the bridesmaids into a small hotel room. And room rates are much lower than the Beau Rivage!

Then, when I saw the fabulous terrace off of the cafe, I could see a WONDERFUL reception taking place with a view of the sunset and waves. And all that after guests enjoyed your ceremony in the sand... it's the only venue I can think of that allows you to have a beach wedding and a sand-free reception after all in one place.

It takes you away and makes you feel like you're in Miami - all while staying close to the casinos and local attractions.

Girls, if you're looking for a WONDERFUL venue for your wedding reception, a great place to throw a way-cool bachelorette party, a wedding-day getting ready pad, or even just a place to call central for your out-of-town wedding guests - check out South Beach Biloxi.

Rebecca's Bridal Portraits - Gautier, Mississippi Gulf Coast

Rebecca's bridal session was just days before her wedding. It was a session I was a little worried about to be honest with you. Bold Rebecca had secured an awesome outdoor location for her bridal session. I say bold, because she saw a gorgeous home in Ocean Springs with grounds set in a storybook. She basically knocked on the door and asked the owners if she could get her bridal portraits taken there and they sweetly agreed.

Now to the part that I was worried about.... the day before AND the day of the session it poured. The ground was soaking wet, quite soft and muddy, and still there were more showers to come. Not a great idea to soil her Lazaro wedding gown just days before her wedding! Although there was no time to re-schedule. We were going to have to scratch our outdoor session and find an indoor location fit for her bridals.

Awesome wedding planner Susie Davis from A Plan to Remember called awesome Dave from The Old Place (also known as La Maison) in Gautier, MS who happily agreed to let us use their venue. It was perfect... I had an amazing, beautiful bride named Rebecca (my camera LOVED her). We used the covered porch and still got that outdoor look. It turned out to be one of my favorite bridal sessions of all time. The worst part about it was having to wait until AFTER the wedding to post the images. It was just killing me :)

Kristen and Michael - Labor Day Weekend Wedding

If you know me at all, you know my heart belongs in two places: the Mississippi Gulf Coast and Massachusetts. So every chance I get to shoot a wedding in Boston - I jump at it. So of course I was thrilled when Kristen and Michael contacted me about their backyard wedding in Westford, MA.

Fast forward to the week before their Sept 4th wedding, and here comes Hurricane Earl. I decided to be preemptive, and got an earlier flight out of Gulfport so I could arrive well ahead of the storm. Luckily Earl was a bust - and the weekend ended up being one of the nicest weekends of the year! Perfect wedding weather!

Kristen and Michael had a lovely church wedding and an beautiful backyard reception. Special thanks to Erik Patton for second shooting with me! Details, church and reception photos to follow!

Mistlewood Wedding - Beverly, Massachusetts Wedding Photography

I couldn't contain myself any longer. I know I have a few weddings to edit before I get to this one - but I couldn't hold it in any longer and had to post at least one photo from this wedding.

Mistlewood. The beauty of this place is served well by such a magical name.

When the couple told me they were getting married on the coast at Mistlewood at Endicott College, I knew it would be picturesque. But I had no idea how picturesque. Breathtaking? Words can't describe it.

If you told me I could only choose to photograph weddings in one location for the rest of my career - I'd smile, have a seat and tell you I knew exactly where I'd choose.

Cliffs, water, sailboats, ivy, an ocean breeze. I'll post MANY more photos from this wedding in the near future. For now, enjoy this one. I know the couple enjoyed this moment.

Bay St. Louis, Mississippi - Engagement Session; Trevin and Dana

Of course I love *all* my wedding couples... but can I tell you that I really get giddy over Trevin and Dana? What a fun (and uber photogenic) couple! I first met Dana for our initial meeting at the yummy Mockingbird Cafe in downtown Bay St. Louis.

Their October ceremony will take place at the Baptist church downtown, with their reception planned at a private riverfront estate. Doesn't it sound lovely!?! I can't wait to be their wedding photographer - because these two lookers make my job easy :)

And since the couple will be getting married downtown, we made plans to meet again at the Mockingbird Cafe for their engagement session. Okay, can I just say it was a HOT day. Well, hot isn't even the word for it. More like OPPRESIVE... but look how well these two kept their cool. They remained gorgeous throughout the whole session (which I can't say the same for myself - but luckily I was the one behind the camera!)

Wedding on the Wharf - Jackie and Dan's Boston Wedding

Three years ago, on August 11, 2007 I shot Christy and Adam's wedding in Peabody, MA. I will never forget that day. Of course, the bride and groom themselves are unforgettable - but aside from that, I will hold that day near and dear to my heart because it's the day I realized I was pregnant with Tilley.

A beautiful wedding at the Smith Barn, packed full of Red Sox fans. I was enjoying the wedding, as it was a lovely afternoon with amazing people - although I was feeling a little under the weather. Light headed, fluttery stomach. About halfway through the reception in dawned on me, that -ah, could it be?!!! And it was. I went home and promptly took the test. And the rest is history, red-head, sippie cups and all.

Imagine my excitement when Christy called me years later to tell me her sister Jackie was engaged and that they would like me to photograph their wedding. Score! I knew the Brodie family and knew what wonderful people they were. And I jump at any chance to shoot in Boston!
Now imagine my continued excitement when I found out the reception would be help at the New England Aquarium! So much fun.

Jackie and Dan were married at Our Lady of Victories church in Boston's Back Bay. After the beautiful ceremony we drove to Christopher Columbus Park right on Boston's Long Wharf for all the family photos. It was packed with people - as it usually is on a day this nice - but we managed to keep most of the tourists out of their photos :)

Now, the real treat of the day for the bride and groom - a close family friend of the couple's, Bud owns a beautiful sailboat in the Boston Waterfront Marina near Long Wharf - and offered to sail the couple from the harbor over to the aquarium, so they could arrive in style!!!

My wedding posts aren't usually nearly as long as this, so thanks for staying with me so far! But the night was magical - the view from the Aquarium patio was just breathtaking. The weather - perfect. The people - more perfect! I stayed longer than contracted because, well - I was having way to much fun to leave!! Thanks Jackie and Dan for inlcuding me in your special day!

Kerri and Matt - Steamy Gulfport, Mississippi Engagement Session

Kerri and Matt attended the Premier Bridal Fair back in February at the Mississippi Gulf Coast Coliseum. They were planning their wedding and looking for a wedding photographer, among other things. They entered my drawing for a free engagement session and WON!

Kerri and I talked about what she wanted for their engagement session. She didn't want the "usual." And I was all for that! She gave me free reign and we came up with a steamy engagement session in downtown Gulfport, Mississippi. Well, it starts off sweet and ends up steamy :)

We headed downtown and took a few shots around Gulfport, before heading into the Half Shell Oyster House. Then we headed next door to The Quarter for a martini and more photos. The band even let Kerri on stage. All the patrons were interested in what we were doing! They thought Kerri and Matt were movie stars! And finally, we ended our night at Watson's Piano Bar, a great smoke-free piano bar with lots of comfy seating, a great bar, and a piano of course!

Their wedding will be taking place in November at the Blue Rose in Pass Christian, MS. What a super HOT couple, and a lot of fun! I wish them all the best!! Congratulations guys!!

Oil Spill reaches Long Beach and Pass Christian, MS

Well, I knew it would happen - but somehow held some hope that the oil would never reach our beaches.

I chose to move back to the Mississippi Gulf Coast because I grew up here. I love the beach and the pelicans. I love the calm surf and the serenity of the drive along highway 90. And now, I'm not sure what will become of our beaches.

Hurricane Katrina devastated the area five years ago. Things are still not the same. But the Coast was bouncing back, little by little. Surely we do not need another setback. Surely we could be spared another catastrophe - this time it wasn't mother nature, but humans to blame.

Oil has landed on the beach along South Mississippi. Our birds and sealife are in grave danger.

As I drove along the beach on Thursday I saw clean-up crews in Long Beach. I stopped to take some photos. On my way home, I stopped in Pass Christian and photographed the oil there.

Keep the Gulf Coast in your thoughts. Do what you can to help. Visit the lovely area and show your support!!

To know Nathan, is to know a real tough young man. Nathan was born with a congenital heart defect. As a very young child he endured multiple heart surgeries, only to learn he also suffered from Congenital Kyphosis. Which meant more surgeries. You wouldn't know it by looking at him. He's full of life and courage. we could all learn a valuable lesson by knowing his story, Nathan's Prayer.

His mother, Karen, is a talented writer, hoping to one day publish their story. Until then, Parent's magazine chose to share some of their story in the July 2010 edition of the magazine. Find the story online here.

Oh, my poor neglected blog. It's ironic really - when I have lots of sessions, I have lots of fun stuff to blog - but no time to blog it! I'm really working on getting caught up, and hope to post some really great things soon, I have 4-5 weddings, a bunch of engagements, even some steamy boudoir photos.

Nikki and Daron are getting married this October in Ocean Springs. They are a fabulous couple and I'm so excited to be a part of their big celebration. Mississippi Garden Club Convention

I had the privilege to photograph the Mississippi Garden Club's state convention this year at the Gulfport Yacht Club. It was made special by the attendance of the National Garden Club president, Renee Blaschke and Gulfport Mayor George Schloegel.

What a bunch of fun this group has. And from attending I learned how much our local garden clubs contribute to the community, from planting trees to beautifying our streets, to funding scholarships for our youth.

Yes, I've moved back to the Gulf Coast - but I still miss Boston terribly. So I've continued booking weddings in Boston so I can return often. If fact, Bostonians - I do not charge for travel to Massachusetts, so keep those referrals coming!

Lisa and Kevin were so great! What a wonderful couple. Fun, friendly, and not to mention - attractive :) They had a beautiful wedding ceremony in the South End followed by an amazing reception at the Liberty Hotel. If you are looking for a unique place for your wedding reception, check out the Liberty Hotel. It has so much character, and was once the Charles Street Jail which used to house some of Boston's most notorious criminals!

Some people pick a location for their engagement photos because it will look nice. This couple chose Ocean Springs as their location, well because they ARE Ocean Springs. Cynthia and Shawn hold Ocean Springs dear to their hearts and Cynthia works for the Ocean Springs Chamber of Commerce.

So, it was natural they chose downtown Ocean Springs for the setting of their engagement photos. In fact, they will also hold their wedding reception at Rose Farm Manor in Ocean Springs early next year.

I am looking for high school Juniors to be my Senior Reps for the Class of 2011!!!

I would like to solidify my senior reps in the next 2-3 weeks, so apply now.

What is a senior rep you ask?
You will be a representative at your school for Tilley Photography. You will pass out cards with your own photos on them and get your classmates excited about senior portraits. I promise no stuffy fake backgrounds here – just fun custom senior sessions that you will WANT to show off. Also, you’ll keep an eye out for who you think will be a great rep from the Class of 2012!

What do I get?
You get two free sessions: one in the spring and one in the fall. The first session must be completed this Spring for your rep cards that you will be handing out. You’ll get free prints from each session, 50 senior contact cards (in addition to rep cards), and unlimited web images to share via Facebook and email. There will be prints, money, prizes and free goodies for referrals, including an iPod Touch for my top representative! Already have an iPod Touch? Then you’ll get an iTunes gift card worth $200. Looking your best in photos - should you get a professional make-up artist?

So, maybe you are a bride deciding whether or not to get a professional make-up artist for your wedding day. Or possibly you are a high school senior thinking about having your make-up done for your senior portraits.

Should you do your own make-up or hire a professional?

There isn't a right or wrong answer here. Some people are extremely good at applying make-up and see no need to hire a professional.

Here are some things to think about when making a decision.

I will always suggest, when in doubt - hire a professional. I'm not saying you can't do a great job on your own. However, most make-up artists will know what make-up looks good in pictures, what make-up will hold up on a hot day, and what make-up will not run if tears begin to flow or rain begins to fall. There are lots of products out there that might look great in the mirror, but add the flash from a camera and you could be looking like Casper the ghost!

You brush your own teeth every day, just as every day you apply your own make-up. But hopefully, twice a year, you visit the dentist to get a professional teeth cleaning, right? So why not - on such an important day - hire a professional?

I work with amazing professionals that can fit into any price range. If you want a flawless complection and perfectly pouty lips that look like they came straight out of a fashion magazine - you can have them. This is YOUR wedding day. Or these are YOUR senior portraits. A one-time event. These pictures will be around forever, and a small investment of professionally styled hair and make-up will guarentee to have you looking your best!!!

Premier Bridal Show, Mississippi Gulf Coast Coliseum in Biloxi

First, I wanted to thank everyone who came out to the bridal show on Sunday to make it such a huge success. I met some wonderful vendors and brides and look forward to working with everyone one soon.

Melissa's Specialty Cakes not only does cakes, but wonderful catering and linens!!! This was an awesome table from her booth.

And here's one of Melissa's cakes she displayed, which just happened to be the cake she made for Ashton and Kaitlyn.

One of the favorite booth's of the show was from Imagine That florist and linens. Love all the purple!

So Kaitlyn and Ashton were married on December 12 at Grace Memorial Baptist Church in Gulfport, MS. The reception took place at the Gulfport Yacht Club. Their wedding day just happened to be the rainiest wedding day I have ever photographed! It didn't just rain, it poured. All day.

You wouldn't know it though because Kaitlyn was one of the happiest brides I have ever seen. She didn't let the rain spoil her special day.

That said, with so much rain - we didn't have an opportunity to really get the fun, artistic images of the bride a groom that I usually get on a wedding day. So we scheduled a special rain date session.

It was actually that much more special... because they got to really enjoy their session without having to hurry off to the reception. Some bride and groom's schedule a day-after session, even when it isn't raining, so they can really get some fun and exciting images without time restraits. I offer these add-on sessions at the same rate as my engagement sessions - so inquire with me if you are interested.

I didn’t have the pleasure of meeting Kathryn and Paul until the wedding day! They were planning their wedding from New York City and juggling jobs and trips to Boston for planning. I had two brides back to back who booked their wedding without meeting with me first! But I knew what they were going through. My husband and I planned our New Orleans wedding while living in Boston. Thank goodness for the internet, right!

Well, it turns out that Kathryn and Paul’s wedding involved lots of close friends and family in the planning. A good friend was a make-up artist. Kathryn used to work at Floral Arts in Westford and chose to use them for her florist. And the DJ from S&J DJ was the groom’s cousin!

The ceremony took place at the beautiful Immaculate Conception Church in Lowell with the reception at the Fruitlands Museum in Harvard, MA catered by Seasonal Specialties.

I must say, I *loved* the awesome candy buffet! But the cake! The cake may have been the most beautiful wedding cake I’ve seen! I had to know who made it! Also from Westford, it came from Sweetworks.

Special thanks to Laurie McDonagh for second shooting with me. As always it was a pleasure!!!

Boston, You’re My Home!!

Okay, so for someone who misses Boston terribly, this wedding was the perfect medicine! Alison and Ron wanted to celebrate in Boston style and they did! From the fabulous canvas panoramic of Boston for the guests to sign, to the tables named for all the Boston T-stops, to the favors from Mike’s Pastries. This wedding was all Boston. And one of the highlights was ending the evening with two Boston favorite tunes “Muddy Water” and “Sweet Caroline.”

In addition to getting my Boston fix, the wedding was fun and stress free from start to finish. Alison and Ron are two of the most laid back and friendly people I’ve worked with. They were all smiles and laughs, a beautiful couple inside and out!

The entire event took place at the beautiful Boston Hyatt Harborside. Great hotel, easy for travelers and it has one of the best views of the city! The night before all the family and wedding attendants took a boat across to the North End for a rehearsal dinner at Lucia.

The wind was in full force over the harbor, forcing the ceremony to be sheltered by a tent. Good thing, because we surely would have all blown away! When the reception ended, the guests were having so much fun, no one wanted to leave.

Congratulations guys!!! Thanks for letting me be a part of your special day!

I wanted to let you all know, I will be in Boston photographing 4 weddings and 5 family sessions in just 14 days! Call me crazy.

Well, August has been the month of rained out weddings. And Jessica and Matt were watching Tropical Storm Bill very closely. But rain couldn't keep this couple from putting on a great wedding and reception.

Jessica and Matt were married at the Harvard Club in Post Office Square. It was a beautiful building and the perfect setting for their celebration. From the ballroom chairs to the spectacular view, the Harvard Club was classic and elegant.

And their guests sure knew how to have a good time. They partied well into the evening, with close friends joining the band throughout the night to participate in all the fun! My good friend Laurie McDonagh was my second shooter for the evening - thanks Laurie!

Michelle and Justin were married at the chic Hotel Derek in Houston, TX. And although it rained, we found some great places inside the hotel to grab some fun pictures.

The ceremony was beautiful and followed by a fun reception with music by The Pictures Band, probably THE best wedding band I have ever heard. They play everything from Frank Sinatra to Usher to Lady Gaga. I'm telling you, they can play anything - and WELL.

The wedding cake was elegant and beautiful, but the groom's cake was my favorite! It was the cast of Seinfeld inlcuding the puffy shirt. So fun.

I had the wonderful pleasure of having Carolyn Jones second shoot with me for the day! She is amazing!

Jessica and Jarrid's Wedding

Finally, the rest of Jessica and Jarrid's teasers!

After getting ready (see the first installment of their wedding photos in the post below), we headed over to the beautiful Cathedral of the Nativity of the Blessed Virgin Mary in Biloxi.
The church is known for its beautiful stained glass windows and was the perfect setting for Jarrid and Jessica's wedding vows!

The flowers were designed by Jessica herself. She had the wonderful idea to use the colorful feathers that made her bouquets and arrangements so unique. She had the Flower Basket Florist in Biloxi bring her concepts to life.

After the ceremony we headed over to Ocean Spings to the Marble Springs House for the reception. It's a charming little house with a breezy and welcoming front porch for guests to enjoy.

Again, Jessica outdid herself with the floral arrangements she designed. But equally exciting (and tasty too) was her groom's "cake" which wasn't a cake at all but mini cakes made to look like sushi! It's definitely the most creative groom's cake I've ever seen. The little cakes were so perfect and she made them helself!

The wedding cake was provided by Melissa's Specialty Cakes of Long Beach. The cake topper, again created by the talented bride!

With live music by Tom Beavers and Friends, the guests enjoyed yummy food provided by Broome's Catering. I heard many people comment on how wonderful all the food was. It wasn't too hot, and it was such a wonderful day with so many friends and family there to celebrate their wedding. Afterwards, they headed off to Key West for the honeymoon!!

Thanks guys for letting me photograph such an important event in your lives!!!

I really do. I have the greatest job in the world. Look at this little guy and tell me its possible not to get a great photo of this baby. Truly. He was the perfect little angel. And he let us do all kinds of things with him while he slept. It's such a joy to be a part of people's happiest moments. Engagements, weddings, babies, families. It truly is always an honor when someone asks me to photograph the special moments in their lives.

We're taking family pictures WHERE?

Okay, so most people might think I'm weird. They schedule me for a family portrait and I tell them to meet me by an alley. I think they start to wonder if they should do a background check on me. But no, I have a clean record :)

I like color and texture and being a little different. That doesn't mean I don't do beach or park pictures. But sometimes, I like to mix things up a bit. And city scapes have just what I'm looking for; and yes, sometimes that means you may be taking your family portrait in an alley. Only if you want to of course, but I dare you to give it a try. You might like it.

I knew this family would be all for it. My camera LOVED these kids!! What little models! I hope I get to photograph them more often!!!

Mr. Lev is now five months old, and I had planned on photographing him months ago. But with the move to the Gulf Coast, I didn't get the pleasure. Luckily, this time I was in Boston I made time to meet the little guy. I'm so glad I did. He's a cutie, and possible romantic interest for my daughter, who seems quite smitten with him!

Leah and Eric are great people who make adorable little boys! Okay, boy, singular, but you know what I mean.

Family on the 4th

A colleague of mine, Caty Morris, took a great photo last year and I wanted to do something similar. At one of her weddings, her guests got together and wrote the word "Congrats" in the air with sparklers and Caty did a great job capturing it.

So, realizing my family all had some sparklers I thought "hey, when better to try this out?" I got them all together and had them spell out the word "FAMILY." It took two tries, but we got the great photo above.

Brian and I drove by this place tonight and just stopped to have a look. It's a coffee house, breakfast and lunch place and on Friday and Saturday nights, it's a bar! How cool is that? They just opened a couple weeks ago.

Jessica and Jarrid - engagement

Friday was a hot day. Did I say hot? I meant sweltering! But that didn't deter Jessica and Jarrid at all! We met at the harbor in Ocean Springs. Really, I should have insisted we meet an hour later for both heat and lighting conditions, but turns out, everything came out great!

After the harbor, we headed down to Government Street in downtown Ocean Springs. Finally, we ended up at the beautiful Gulf Islands National Seashore Reserve where Jarrid popped the question back in March!

They are a great couple and getting married in just four weeks!
